Australia Travel #3 — Blue Mountains & Lincoln’s Rock

A Day Surrounded by Australia’s Majestic Nature

After visiting Sydney Zoo on the first day of my trip, our next destination was the world-famous Blue Mountains.
We headed first to Echo Point, one of the best viewpoints to experience the vast scale of Australia’s natural beauty.

Echo Point: A Place That Reminds You How Small We Are

Standing before the endless landscape of the Blue Mountains, I felt a moment of complete stillness—
a kind of “mountain meditation,” where the mind empties and the heart fills.

The massive cliffs, dense eucalyptus forests, and deep valleys made me realize how tiny humans truly are in the face of nature.

Looking across the horizon, one thought kept coming to mind:

“Next time I come to Australia, I’m definitely going hiking here.”

Just imagining myself walking through those vast trails made me want to return someday.

A Beautiful View, But… Comparing It to the Grand Canyon

While the scenery was breathtaking, two thoughts surfaced:

  1. “This is the true scale of Australia’s wilderness.”
  2. “But… since I’ve seen the Grand Canyon before, something feels slightly less overwhelming.”

Interestingly, even my wife—who hasn’t been to the U.S.—said it felt like “a nice photo spot” but not overwhelmingly majestic.

So we decided to move to another viewpoint for a different angle of the Blue Mountains.

Lincoln’s Rock — A Wide, Open View That Washes Away Travel Fatigue

Our next stop was Lincoln’s Rock, another stunning lookout where the valley opens up endlessly before your eyes.

Sitting on the edge of the rock, gazing into the distance,
I felt the fatigue from the long flight and morning schedule melt away.

Beautiful scenery seems to transcend nationality—
everyone who stood there shared the same admiration and awe.

It made me think that a slow, nature-focused trip might be even better than a fast-paced group tour.
I couldn’t help imagining what it would be like to trek through that vast wilderness.

Looking From Below: A Completely Different Perspective

A narrow path led down below the main rock, so I descended alone.
From below, the rock formation looked completely different—
weathered by wind and time, exposing layers we couldn’t see from above.

Watching people casually sitting on the cliff edge from below was surprisingly nerve-wracking.
It made the scenery feel more real, raw, and powerful.

Back to the City: Sydney’s Evening Atmosphere

After enjoying the Blue Mountains, we headed back toward our accommodation in Sydney’s city center.

Trams rolled through the streets, people rushed home from work,
and the urban atmosphere contrasted sharply with the quietness of the mountains.

One thing puzzled me, though:

I saw a motorcycle parked sideways along a busy road.
It didn’t look like a designated motorcycle space, and I couldn’t figure out whether this was normal in Australia or just one person’s unusual habit.

A small mystery of the day.

A Quick Stop at the Local Supermarket — And an Unexpected Discovery

We also visited a nearby supermarket.
Most items looked similar to what we have in Korea,
and seeing Shin Ramyun on the shelf made me smile—it really has become global.

What surprised me was this:

Australian supermarkets do not sell alcohol.
You must visit a liquor store (bottle shop) to buy anything alcoholic.

Unfortunately, there was no liquor store near our accommodation,
so I ended up doing an unintentional “alcohol-free trip” for the entire stay.
A healthy but unexpected experience. ^^

The First Day in Australia Comes to an End

After a long overnight flight, a morning at Sydney Zoo, and an afternoon at the Blue Mountains,
the first day of my 3-night, 5-day Australia trip finally came to a close.

A bit chaotic because of travel fatigue,
but unforgettable nevertheless.

With a good night’s rest, I prepared myself for Day 2 of my Australia adventure.

Stay tuned for the next part of the journey!
